Hump Day Distractions

Hump Daaaaay!
Guys. Today is my baby boy Dugans' 2nd birthday!!!! Remember yesterday when I mentioned that I might be too obsessed with my dog!? Well, first of all, NO SUCH THING and second, how could you not be obsessed with this face:
LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Dugans may not have come home to Dr. H and I until Nov. of 2015, but he was born on this day 2 short, but somehow seems like forever, years ago. I can remember getting the email from the breeder that there was 1 little dude puppy in the litter (I've only ever had male dogs and figured I'd stick with what I know) and that he was nearly completely white (only thing we'd said was "NYC is dirty, we don't want a white dog"). After a lengthy debate which seems truly insane now, we decided that this pup was for us and the rest is history!!!

In honor of Mister Dugs (pronounced Doogs) birthday, here's a doggy style (hehe) serving of hump day distractions. Enjoy!
* Here are some of the best dog instagram accounts. Personal favorites of mine are Toast, Muppet, The Dogist, Samson and of course DUGANS!
* Do you know DoggoLingo?!
* Adorable puppers grow up into adorable doggos
* I could go on for hours about the love affair blossoming between baby and puppy in my house (and I probably will at some point), but for now, THIS
* Halloween is coming and obviously in my house it's going to be a family affair!!!

I have officially lost it. (#OscartheFriendlyPup)

Own your crazy!
Last night I created an Instagram account... for my family's dog Oscar.

I know. I have officially lost it. But allow me to explain!!
1) Oscar is freakin awesome. He is the most cuddly, lovable dog I've ever known.
2) When anyone in my family walks Oscar around NYC, people constantly stop us to pet and love on Oscar, frequently asking if they can take his picture and even the occasional selfie WITH Oscar. Can you actually imagine stopping a stranger on the street and taking a selfie with their dog?! Well it happens to Oscar all. the. time.

Recently when Sis was walking Oscar in Washington Square Park, after a young girl snapped a pic of him, she asked if he had an Instagram account or Hashtag she should use to share the photo. He did not, but obviously when Sis relayed this funny exchange to me all I could think was BEST IDEA EVER.

So now I'm officially one of those crazy dog people who has created a social media account for my animal (even the "my" being a stretch given that he's a family dog in the family I belong to, but no longer live with...) Whatever. Want to follow Oscar's adventures? Just click HERE and follow the Instagram account that his officially crazy big sister created for him. And if you ever see us on the street, you better use the hairy man's official hashtag #OscartheFriendlyPup. I promise he'll make you smile.

Alas, Wednesday is the best we can do so here are a few distractions from around the web to get us through the day and safely to the other side of this BEAST of a week!

Frenchie

Hey there little buddy..!
I have never been a fan of French Bulldogs in particular (I've always been more of an English Bulldog gal) but lately I've come across some Frenchie photos which make me wonder if these guys are in fact just as awesome as their British counterparts...

Good day sir.

Just clowning around.
As I continue to contemplate which breed of dog I'm going to force Dr. H to let into my life, the French Bulldog's apparent willingness to be posed in any sort of costume or location certainly peaks my interest...

Need a push?

Pup after my own heart...

I can't even...

Hump Day Distractions

They say it's chocolate swirl ice cream...
but I think we all know what this emoji is about
How are we holding up today my friends? It seemed like yesterday was a rough one across the board, with at least a dozen different people I encountered (and I don't think that's an exaggeration!) bemoaning that it was just a "tough day". Preach. I've been recovering from some sort of "when-did-I-get-so-old!?" lower back injury since Sunday night, popping Aleve like candy and using a heating pad at my desk #oldballs. Here to help you survive today, and get one step closer to the glorious shortened holiday week that's just around the corner, are some fun goodies from around the web. Enjoy!!

* Have family coming to visit you in NYC this holiday season (I do!)? Just want to get out and get into the spirit?! Click HERE for some excellent ideas and events going on around the city!
* 10 things to stop doing so you can get happy.
* This mom seems pretty bad ass.
* These are an excellent blend of hysterical, creative and occasionally quite creepy...
* Aca-scuse me!? You need more a cappella Beyonce in your life?

* Well THAT is an inventive and delicious looking combination of foods I love!
* Mom always said she was the most evil Disney villain... now she's got her own movie to prove it!
* This girl cracks me up (last one is my favorite)!

Hump Day Distractions

Peel it girl!
Hello and Happy Hump Day from feels like freakin February NYC!!! It is bleepin chilly round these parts today, but despite the cold, I knew it was gonna be a good one when my Soul instructor Charlee (beast in the best possible way!) started our ride with a ridonky remix of the opening song from the Lion King. "Naaaaa-simbey-ahhh!!!" I mean, how do you not smile when that happens!? Just in case you didn't kick off your day with the Lion King, here are some delightful distractions to get your through.

* Do I need this iPhone case? I think I need this iPhone case. (85% chance I order it after I post this...)
* Well THAT is a brilliant idea!
* Remember my obsession with the PenguinCam at the San Diego Sea World?! Well move over pengies, there's a new polar star in town! (via exPress-o)

Hump Day Distractions

Eat a cookie.
This morning I woke up early (after a fitful night's sleep - anyone else in NYC get that blaring 3:51am Amber Alert on their iPhone!?) to workout. I had a great workout, then I showered and got dressed and discovered that I omitted 1 fairly essential, very "supportive" article of clothing in my gym bag... Oops. Here's to a bouncing good Wednesday:)

* I think my parents' house by the sea might need one of THESE.
* If only we could all see the world (and enjoy Cheerios) the way these kids do (thanks Sis!)
* If any business on the planet was going to have the name "Meri Meri", I think it is fitting that it's a party supply company. (Enter for a chance to win some Meri Meri goodness HERE!)
* Well, I am generally a Happy Camper:)
* Check out THESE crazy cute shoes for kiddos to wear at the beach.
* I think somebody at Nike lost their job this week...
* My iPhone needs an ice pop. Anybody want to make one for me?!
smörgåstårta a Swedish sandwich cake with layers of bread separating creamy fillings = YUM.
* Lookout Cronut, there's a new dessert in town!
* It's the dog's expression in this photo that really makes it so great.
* What's that!? You want to see a ton of pictures of fluffy animals!?

Hump Day Distractions

Rubber Ducky, you're the (big) one!
This morning the skies opened up in NYC and dumped enough rain on me to soak nearly every ounce of clothing I was wearing (despite my raincoat and umbrella!) ...and did I mention it was before 8am and I was going to WORK OUT!?! Universe, you're a real b*tch sometimes, ya know that!!? Anyway, here to help us hump the hell outta this day are a ton of delightful distractions. Enjoy!

* What an awesome way to preserve your kid's artwork without having to save every single piece (though I strongly recommend keeping more than a few originals anyway:)
* More information than you ever needed (but kind of wanted) to know about the Doritos Locos Taco.
* Anyone have a spare $695 to buy me these quirky beauties? (via Honestly WTF)
* And while we're on the topic of expensive beyond belief... Looks like a sort of unintentional sequel to "The September Issue" (which I adored).
* Spice up your dinner party table decor for just $9.99 (via Justina Blakeney)
* Warren Buffet wants us to remember the ladies..!
* Pasta salad deliciousness.
* Whole lotta awesome hair tutorials.
* Amazing people in amazing combinations.
* Craft those cheapy votive candle holders into a little something special.
* THIS dog just blew my mind.
* A Dad with an excellent sense of humor (I hope his wife has one too!)
* I think her joke is hysterical and his animation is perfection.

Hump Day Distractions

hehe.
Hellllooo hump day! Today is a "why bother" sort of hair day in NYC if you know what I mean (rain, wind, general gloom) so I'm absolutely ripe for distraction. For those of us not lucky enough to "snail it" in bed all day long, let's get over the hump together:

* I want to go to there. Now.
* Bed Bath and Beyond is a palace of lies.
* THIS is definitely getting added to the lunch rotation asap (sounds amazing!!)
* Taking the art of water-sliding to new heights (literally) and a "free fall slide".
* I have had this exact conversation at least a half dozen times.
* Studying up before I see my favorite novella come to life on the Broadway stage!
* A very long, but insanely interesting article on why we really are addicted to junk food.
* The windows of NYC. Totally Cool.
* Sometimes a dog just has to groove to the music.

Hump Day Distractions

hehe.
I'm feeling a bit "off" today... not sick enough to stay at home, not healthy enough to be cheery at work. Blegh. Let's get right to the distractions!

* Just a few white lies we can all get behind.
* Holy CRAP this dog is freakin amazing.
* Melted cheese is the key to my heart (balsamic soaked tomatoes don't hurt either:)
* You know how I feel about concerts alone, but what about travelling?
* Was I the only person on the planet who didn't know about the Harlem Shake phenom until last week!? Well in an effort to improve my cool factor, I went on a shake binge. Check out my favorites HERE and HERE and HERE.
* Got loads of compliments on my mani when I brought this Pin to life (note: I used dark purple for the base coat).
* Did you know that this happened to Venice in the fall!? How cool/crazy/scary/nuts!
* Makes you say "whhhhhhhhat!?!"

Hump Day Distractions

That's a Hunk Day Hump Day Distraction right there!
Guess who finally snapped out of her funk!? THIS girl!! Turns out a good spin class, delicious dinner and detailed "to do" list (which I tackled 1 item at a time with gusto!) was enough to get my brain back on track. Lemonade for everyone!! Even more merry is the fact that we are half way to a glorious 3-day weekend. Hump it with me here:

* At least it wasn't Shamu?

Hump Day Distractions

Do not surrender! We're halfway there!!
Welcome to Wednesday my merry friends! It's all kinds of toasty here in NYC so I suggest we turn up the AC and hump this week out together.
* Pluto hasn't been a planet in over five years (and other things that will make you feel OLD!)
* Obviously I taste as I go (who doesn't do that!?) but I'm making a ton of these common cooking mistakes... until now!
* A great read about the relationships we form with our Nannies (of the caregiver, not grandmother variety)
* "I think it's a book about a haunted theme park and it stars a magical magic guy and he's good and evil and he's trying to get rid of the ghosts" - a 6 year old's guess as to the plot of The Great Gatsby based on the cover art.
* Take me to the dollar store, I have dishes to make! (Has anyone ever tried this? Does it really work!?)
* Looking for fifteen friends to take a bike ride in Des Moines, Iowa with me. (via IowaGirlEats)

Puppy love or lack thereof?

I want to hug you and love you and snuggle you silly.
I want a puppy. Like really, seriously want a puppy. I grew up with dogs and when I think of a home and a family, there's always a four-legged buddy in the picture. Dr. H however, has no puppy love. Raised pet-free, Dr. H sees dogs as substantial decisions with little return on investment (silly Dr. H!)

To his credit, hubs has agreed to eventually welcome a dog into our home (and for that I'm very grateful) however when is a constant subject of debate. We both feel very strongly (me = next spring; him = let's talk about this never) and it seems like we've reached a pretty serious stalemate. What do we do!? I respect and appreciate all of his concerns, however I tooooootally disagree!

How do you not love that face!? Those wrinkles!!!!
How do you and your significant other find compromise in moments of such staunch disagreement? I really want to meet Dr. H (with a dog) in the middle, but we're sitting so far apart! I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Hump Day Distractions

HA!
Heyyyo! Look at us, we've made it to Wednesday!! I hope wherever you are, it's been as sunny and springy as here in New York. Mmm sunshine:) No matter the weather, here's some internet goodness to help you get over the hump.

*For a cool $9.65 million you can own a piece of Sex and the City history.
*Music Monday at Black * Eiffle introduced me to the amazing Andrew Bird. Love discovering a new (to me) musician.
*If only I were brave enough to take on a home decor DIY of this magnitude.
*Spruce up your plain old ponytail!
*Thinking of taking THIS recipe for a test drive on Sunday (what would be a good side dish/vegetable?)
*A dog finally tells us how he feels about watching us make and eat our sandwiches (this one's for you Sis!)

Hump Day Distractions

Invented by a genius. Obviously.
Here we are, at the hump. This week the hump feels huge for me... knee surgery recovery is full steam ahead (and going well!) and it's tiring. Despite all those days on the couch, I'm ready for a weekend. Hump it out with me...

* Ladies... did you forget your man on Valentine's Day? Maybe THIS will make up for it?
* The Grammy's happened. (Wow girl.) The Oscar's are coming... If you are a fancy pants mcgee, you should throw an Oscar party like THIS one (via Snippet & Ink). I can also recommend from experience pizza, good wine and a dry erase board with you and your friends' nominee guesses. Get the full list of nominee's HERE
* This is some pretty hysterical home decor (also likely to horrify your grandparents) (via Cup of Jo and The Daily Muse)
* I need more colorful bookshelves in my life.
* I want a dog and I want it to be able to do THIS.

Update! I tested out the "sock bun" from last hump day and learned a few things: (1) Do not expect this to go well the first time; it's likely going to take more than one test-run; (2) Use a spray bottle for the water like the video says. For some reason I thought splashing from the sink would be a good substitute. It wasn't; (3) Don't use a dress sock. I think it wasn't "plush" enough. I saw signs of a great hair trick in my efforts girls, but we're not there just yet. I will report back next week on attempt number 2.
