Random Ranting...

Thinkin and doin.
Since yesterday's post was all grown up-serious-life-decisionsy, I thought today we needed a healthy dose of ridiculousness. Here's what's on my mind:

Random Thought #1
What the heck is up with Facebook Messenger!? Facebook is getting super pushy about downloading their new messaging App and I am having NONE of it. Not only does the app get terrible reviews, but I only rarely communicate via Facebook message so I have no need for a separate app, especially since my iPhone is already perpetually out of storage space (thanks to my photo hoarding). So why can't I just say "no thanks" and move on with my life you ask!? Because I keep getting a pesky little red (1) notification on my iPhone home screen and Facebook has now blocked my ability to read any Fbook messages I do receive on my phone unless I download the App. Well I won't. I will defy your little red notification and the messages will just have to wait until I'm at a computer. HA.

Random Thought #2
Fashion Week in NYC is about to kick off and that means it's time for the invasion of the models. This invasion is no joke. On the subway or strutting down the sidewalk, fashion week brings an insanely noticeable influx of giraffe-esque/all-legs/when-was-the-last-time-she-ate(!?) women to my city and this raises two issues for me: first, I feel like I should be walking around handing out cheeseburgers and second, where is my invitation to a fashion show?

And finally on a lighter note... I had to pop into Banana Republic this week to make an exchange and I noticed that they are straight up killin' it with their new fall line. I recommend you check it out.

Not only are these things helpful to you, but your connecting with the blog helps me grow my traffic, which just might help me (maybe, someday) make writing in this happy little space something I could do on a may-jah scale (and that would be oh so lovely!) So please take a minute to do some clickin... then get the hell off your computer and go enjoy this last bit of summer!

Are you serious!? (A cellular rant)

I see you over there... glowing...
On Friday night Dr. H and I went to the movies (at the awesome Nitehawk Cinema, but more on that another day) and I sat next to a woman who was OUT OF CONTROL with her cellphone. Throughout the previews she was texting and posting to Facebook (hey, you want to have your phone out in a dark room next to me? Ima look at your screen!) and I nearly said something, but then Ms. "I-can't-live-in-the-present-because-I-must-stay-tethered-to-the-digital-world" did put down her phone. However mid-movie she started checking for new messages, scrolling her News Feed and once even waved the phone in her companions' face to show him something (I hope it was a date and I hope that made him hate her). Phone Girl's phone glow seriously hindered my ability to relax and enjoy the film!

Now maybe this sounds harsh, and maybe if I'd spoken up she would have realized she was being rude and stopped, but I didn't want to be "that girl" (...you know, the one who speaks up and makes you want to roll your eyes and say "geez lady, lighten up!") But honestly... WTF Phone Girl!? You're at the MOVIES!! You aren't a doctor, you're not checking on your kid, you paid good money to sit here and watch this so put away your tele and be HERE, watching THIS! All that other stuff will be there in 2 hours I promise. And if nothing else, consider the obnoxious glow your phone is casting, impacting the good time of all the people around you - it sucks.

So that's my rant on  taking out your cell phone at the movies. I'm sure none of you will ever volunteer to see a movie with me again:)

A Thankful Hump Day

Sup G?
Happy almost Turkey Day my merry friends! In honor of the holiday and the day we all collectively say "why on earth did I bother coming into work?" (aka, today) I've compiled a fantastic list of distractions for you. I wish you all safe travels, delicious meals and a few moments of peaceful reflection to remember that no matter the challenges you face, there is much in this world to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving.

Big Squishable Animals. Yup.
* So funny. So true.
* Some people should really stay off of Facebook.
* The truth about what will be on your tv all day tomorrow.
* So easy, you can have THESE on your dessert table even with less than 24 hours notice. Sure to be gobbled up (hehe).
* Why Friday just might be more awesome than Thursday.
* Two really cool ways to support those still recovering from Hurricane Sandy HERE and HERE.
* 49% of me says "ahhh! so dangerous!" but 51% says "damn I want to try that". (Skip to 1 minute mark).

Hump Day Distractions

That's a Hunk Day Hump Day Distraction right there!
Guess who finally snapped out of her funk!? THIS girl!! Turns out a good spin class, delicious dinner and detailed "to do" list (which I tackled 1 item at a time with gusto!) was enough to get my brain back on track. Lemonade for everyone!! Even more merry is the fact that we are half way to a glorious 3-day weekend. Hump it with me here:

* At least it wasn't Shamu?
* I'm finally cashing in my Verizon upgrade for the new iPhone next month and I plan to turn that bad boy in to a one-stop photoshop dream machine using some of THESE well reviewed apps.
* One of the greatest photobombs of all time.
* This is gonna be freakin delicious.
* "Lovely Sky Monsters" (how elegantly titled right!??)
* New baby at the zoo
* Here's to hoping our pups never figure out how to use Facebook (because who knows what they would say about us!)

We're close (on the internet...)

A handwritten note on beautiful stationary is one of my
FAVORITE ways to keep in touch.
I don’t think there’s ever been a better time for keeping in touch. Thanks to cell phones, video chatting, social networks and email, it’s possible to stay connected with anyone and everyone I’ve ever met. On the one hand, this is awesome - I have maintained amazing relationships with roommates, relatives and childhood friends which never would have lasted without our digital connection. The downside however, is that it’s getting harder and harder to make time in the real world for face to face interaction with all the (awesome) peeps in my digital posse. Is technology enhancing our relationships and expanding our circles or doing one at the expense of the other?

Recently Dr. H and I looked at our calendars and realized that it’s been months since we had a weekend that didn’t include catching up, eating out or traveling to see family/friends. Our weeknights are often similarly stacked and while I’d like to think we’re “just that cool,” the reality is we keep in touch with TONS of people digitally and struggle to keep so many relationships alive beyond facebook stalking. I LOVE being able to keep in touch, but it’s tricky to make sure quality keeps up with quantity. Do you have friends you never “see” anywhere other than online? Is that a bad thing? (PS- THIS is a hysterical way to drop a line... more HERE).
