That’s what she said

Kids say the darndest things...
This post brought to you by the fabulous (parent)thetically speaking.

This volume, ladies (and gentlemen?) is all about the arrival of “why?” into the little miss’s vocabulary and the story-telling, oh the story-telling! Has a story (or a tiny, rambling, crazy person) made you chuckle and think “what could possibly be going on in their head?” Here are some gems that I’m oh-so-glad I wrote down...

* Yesterday there was a little almond sticking out of my belly button.
* You’re my goofiest cookie in the whole wide world and I can’t believe I get to eat you.
* Sometimes firefighters go to synagogue on their own, and they make the synagogue spicy.
* My bracelet says after Mother’s Day is Sister’s Day. That’s where you give all the sisters hug and kisses. And then give them treats like chocolate and Hershey bars.
* The other day, when I woke up in my crib, Daddy wasn’t there, he was still at the dentist where I was born.
* A spectel is when you’re not talking nicely.
* Elsa’s really good at making braids mommy, but you’re not.
* I smell chocolate chip cookies, I think I’ll keep the smell in my nose.
* You know what I call Target? Rawr-get.
* This animation is kind of rude.
* Consplain it to me.
* That hill tickled the inside of my belly.

And now... That’s what she asked

* Do witches brush their teeth?
* Why does red mean stop - why doesn’t green mean stop and red mean go?
* Why do we have a mailbox?
* Where do trucks live?
* Why do people have skin?

Hump Day Distractions

Awwww.
Today is Wednesday. Today is Hump Day. Lordy get me over that hump!!

* HOLY inspiration, every one of these smart, beautiful, powerful mamas.
* You should really read what this sleep doctor has to say.
* For my fellow Game of Thrones geeks. Amazeballs.
* Where to buy cheap art.
* And while I'm getting my inner geek on, want to see how much thought went into the NYC subway signage?!
* Just purchased. Will let you know if I'm able to get my pinup on this summer.
* An absolutely adorable denim apron (because who says the chef can't look chic!?) (via exPress-o)
* Holy crap that's cool.
* Don't worry, THIS sweet pair is still lovingly snoozin the days away together.

Whomp whoooomp.

That little guy on the right? That's me.
So remember last week when I was all "huzzah! spring is here!! Buy some new converse, smell the flowers, soak in the sun" rejoice-y!? Well this morning when the thermometer said 21 degrees and I had to take my sad and quasi-frozen pansies and tulips off the terrace, all that joy slipped away faster than you can say "where's my puffy jacket?" And with tomorrow's forecast of  snow seeming more and more plausible, I'm about ready to cry me some wimpy, "I just want to wear my pastels" tears. Sadsies.

Since I'm feeling lazy, unmotivated and generally annoyed at the universe for sending us this relentless and endless winter, I thought I'd share some pictures of adorable animals today. Because nothing turns my day around like procrastinating on the internet, staring at cute little critters.

It's gonna be alright bud.
I'm pawsitive this will cheer you up!
Wake me when it's over.
Here to help make the cold more bear-able
All ears if you need to complain about the cold!

Ski Bunny Out!!

Bahhhh!!!
Tonight I leave for my annual "I'm in love with my clique from junior high school" trip to Vermont, where I plan to spend three days in our glamorous rental house alternating between snowboarding (aka, butt bruising) and improving my apres ski skills (aka, will 1 handle of Tito's be enough!?). Unfortunately, between unearthing my snow pants and grinding out work so I can be off tomorrow, I didn't get my post for today (or tomorrow) done. I'm hoping you'll forgive me because I did scrounge up THIS:

And THIS:

And a recipe for THIS (click HERE to Pin, HERE for full site):
S'mores cookie bars. STFU!

Tick tock tick tock...

Hug it out.
I am literally watching the clock today. I check it just about every 15 minutes... I am 193% (official count) ready for a crisp fall weekend out and about in my most favorite city. Got some girl friend plans, tickets to a sa-weeeet outdoor concert and a trip to Chinatown for some dim sum all on the agenda. Hellz yes. But...

...before you leave, you must click HERE.
Also, I dare you not to completely melt reading every single one of THESE. (via Peppermint Bliss!)
Here's the reason I will never purchase Barilla pasta again.
So true. SO true.

"Feed Your Football Face" Recipe of the Week: Mini Loaded Potato Footballs*
* brought to you by The Curvy Carrot
Are you SERIOUS!? I mean it doesn't get much easier, or much event-specific-perfect than these mini football-esque treats.

Ingredients
20 small red potatoes
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Toppings:  sour cream, cheese, chives, vegetarian bacon, etc.
Instructions1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
2. In a large bowl, toss the potatoes, olive oil and salt together until coated thoroughly.
3. Place the potatoes on a rimmed baking sheet, bake for 20 minutes or until soft.
4. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
5. Once cool enough to touch, cut a small slit in the top of each potato and gently scoop out a small portion of the flesh, discarding it.
6. Top each potato with your desired toppings and serve while still warm.  (*I used a small piping bag fitted with a tiny pastry tip and piped sour cream directly into each potato for simplicity and ease.)

Hump Day Distractions

Did ya catch that?
Hello crisp fall Wednesday, thank you for reminding me that this is a time of year when no matter how I get dressed in the morning, I will be either too hot or too cold, always in search of Goldilocks' elusive "just right". (Am I the only one that finds getting dressed in early fall and early spring impossible!?) While I attempt to shed layers and regulate my temperature, here are some delightful distractions from around the web for you. Enjoy!

* Completely unnecessary yet totally freaking awesome.
* A truly hysterical voicemail (gets especially good starting at :45)
* Some super handy info about storing your fruits and veggies for maximum freshness.
* I'm totally dating myself with this link, but you know you'd have followed Cher (from Clueless) on Instagram!
* The nature girl in me says "I want to go to THERE".
* You know what's torture on day 3 of a juice cleanse? THIS mac cheese insanity spotted on Pinterest (direct link HERE) I'm so ready for my return to solids:)
* For those of you with a black tie affair coming up and $7,000 to spare. So glam.
* These two are pretty freakin adorable together
* Yes, yes I desperately want to know the back story behind each of THESE.

Hump Day Distractions

Walken is always watching!
HOORAY, we're halfway there!! This has been one of those strange weeks where the days are going a bit slooooow but the week overall seems to be just moving right along. Keep on moving!! Here to take you to the other side are some goodies from around the web. Happy humping:)

* For all my fellow lovers of bold and beautiful color, a very cool photo collection. (via notetoself)
* Sound like a pro while watching the Bruins and Blackhawks battle for the Cup!
* I think that I need these elephants on my body (spotted on Pinterest Monday & CupofJo Tuesday... must be super cool right!?)
* The 2nd avenue subway line is really, actually happening (right beneath us!)
* Precisely the reaction I would have (it gets good starting at the :20 mark, be sure to watch to the end)
* For me it would be Grandma's swedish meatballs and Nanny's stuffed cabbage. (via exPress-o, I think!)
* Looking for some healthy(ier) crunchy treats? I love THESE and one of my girlies is diggin THESE.
* The most impressive 140 square feet you ever did see.
* Peter Griffin is that you!?! (could this actually be real!?!)
* Ron Burgundy is coming to the 80s... YES.
* As my sister said, not sure why this isn't animal abuse, but I'm kinda glad it isn't! (13 and 15 BLEW MY MIND!!!)
* A highly elaborate prank.
* And last but not least, animal pictures that will absolutely make your day!

Hump Day Distractions

No need to speak Ryan. Just let me look.
Well it was bound to happen folks. Somewhere between the uneven bars and the 100M dash, I hit my Olympic wall. On Sunday night, the rigor of sitting on my ass watching hours upon hours of other people being athletic finally took it's toll and I conceded to my exhaustion, retreating to bed earlier than I have in ages. Thankfully, I awoke Monday feeling rested and super motivated to face the week so I'm running full speed over today's hump like THIS GUY.  Join me as we sprint to the finish of this week!!

* According to THIS, I am the physical equivalent of Ms. Britt Goodwin (sign me up for the GB Handball team!?)
* It isn't called the XXX Olympiad for nothing!
* Football fandom taken to a level of adorable that's impossible to beat (an especially "awww moment" at the :45 mark)
* And while we're saying "awwww"...
* THIS seems pretty freakin brilliant (also, delicious)
* New Yorkers are a special breed of beautiful (and I love it; be sure to read the captions) [viaCupofJo]
* Judd Apatow seems to have nailed it again. Always a good sign when you're laughing out loud at the trailer.
* I must erect a warning. This link is a real weiner.
