It's Tailgate Time!

Hike!
Are you ready for some football!? With the start of the college and NFL football seasons these last two weekends, all my summer sun lounging outside days have devolved into "what time is kickoff?/where is the game on?" love affairs with my television. Tis the season!! Here to make sure your tailgate snacks are as game ready as your team (hopefully!) are some new game day recipes to take for a whirl. Game on!

THIS recipe claims that quesadilla glory is just 10 minutes away. Black beans and corn, salsa and seasoning, this is a game time or tailgate snack anyone can manage to pull off and it's sure to be a hit! (Pin it HERE)

While we're hitting the mexican-theme munchies, HERE's another "put it in a bite size cup" recipe for Mini Mexican Pizzas. An easy to follow recipe with just a few ingredients, you can do all the prep in advance and then pop these into the oven just before halftime for a mid-game treat! (Pin it HERE).

Has there ever been a more unexpected match made in culinary food heaven!? Avocados wrapped in bacon - easy, healthy(ish!?), bacon-y and delicious all at once. Check out the simple recipe (via Necessary Clothing of all places!) HERE (Pin it HERE)

So that pizza bread right there? How delicious does that look!? The full recipe for make-your-own-dough is right HERE or if you're like me and love the idea but hate the mess/effort/time involved, pop over to your favorite pizza shop and ask if they will sell you a pizza's worth of dough (many will!) Then follow the recipe from there.

And of course there will be times when your team draws the early game and breakfast eats are called for, which is why there is THIS Breakfast Casserole w egg whites, bacon, spinach and smoked gouda recipe. It's time to up your kegs and eggs game my friends. (Pin it HERE)

Feeling SUPER!

These will never ever stop blowing my mind.
Hooray for Friday!!! This morning, while working on besting my "hit the snooze" personal record, I remembered that Sunday is the Super Bowl and I was like "yay! finger foods!" and then I promptly fell back asleep. Thankfully(?) I am fully awake now, and I am ready to share some goodness of the Super Bowl variety. First, please tell me you've seen this non-Super Bowl, Super Bowl commercial:

Anna Kendrick you are the shizz (and well done Newcastle)

Next, let's talk about food. Food, Glorious Food!
(hey just because I love football doesn't mean I can't also make musical theater references!)

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Meatballs - YES PLEASE!
Pin it HERE, Full recipe HERE.

One Pot (you know I love these) Cheeseburger Casserole.

* Here's some insider info about the commercials you'll be seeing *

Want to watch something adorable, get teary-eyed and remember what sports is really all about!?
(Hint: Entertainment and joy for fans of all ages.)

These football-inspired "treat cones" are super easy to make and adorable to snack from!

It doesn't get any easier to be sporty than this!! Take your guac, place it in a rectangular serving dish and use sour cream in a zip lock bag (with the corner snipped off) to draw your football field!)

I don't know...

Meet Sammy.
... who's going to be victorious in the big game this weekend, but seeing these photos of 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick's pet tortoise definitely tell me that he's already a winner. Happy Weekend and Happy Superbowl-ing my friends!!

ps- Not sure if THIS is an official game commercial or not, but it's GENIUS (sports sponsorship lawyer geek out!)

Hump Day Distractions

No need to speak Ryan. Just let me look.
Well it was bound to happen folks. Somewhere between the uneven bars and the 100M dash, I hit my Olympic wall. On Sunday night, the rigor of sitting on my ass watching hours upon hours of other people being athletic finally took it's toll and I conceded to my exhaustion, retreating to bed earlier than I have in ages. Thankfully, I awoke Monday feeling rested and super motivated to face the week so I'm running full speed over today's hump like THIS GUY.  Join me as we sprint to the finish of this week!!

* According to THIS, I am the physical equivalent of Ms. Britt Goodwin (sign me up for the GB Handball team!?)
* It isn't called the XXX Olympiad for nothing!
* Football fandom taken to a level of adorable that's impossible to beat (an especially "awww moment" at the :45 mark)
* And while we're saying "awwww"...
* THIS seems pretty freakin brilliant (also, delicious)
* New Yorkers are a special breed of beautiful (and I love it; be sure to read the captions) [viaCupofJo]
* Judd Apatow seems to have nailed it again. Always a good sign when you're laughing out loud at the trailer.
* I must erect a warning. This link is a real weiner.

I have a boo boo.

It’s not a serious boo boo (thankfully) but it’s an ouchie one... I have a torn ACL and medial meniscus. It’s similar to what happened to THIS GUY and THIS GUY. Somebody send me to the Superbowl! It’s also the same thing that happened to ME when I was 15 years old. Somehow in the many years since my surgical repair (dancing, running marathons, wearing 3” high heels and hiking the Inka Trail?) I broke my “brand new knee”. Brand new no more...

Today I am having surgery to fix this bad boy, hopefully once and for all. Luckily, I get to come home the same day and let Dr. H nurse me back to health. Though it’s possible I’ll be MIA for a day or two, in all likelihood I’ll be bored out of my mind and blogging up something special for you. To be determined. In the meantime, wish me luck facing my illogical fear and I’ll see you on the other side.

Are you ready for some football!?

Pinned Image
Will the"new messiah" defeat one of football's reigning QB gods?
Do the Saints go marching in?
Is New York really ready to crush the cheese(heads)?
Does my college roommate's undying love for all things Raven finally get rewarded?
Only time will tell.

Here's to tasty wings, ice cold beers and THIS amazing treat courtesy of Jimmy Fallon.

You can call me Sporty Spice.

I just got home from a Knicks game and the BCS Championship Game is on tv. I saw over 5 hours of NFL football on Sunday and last week I watched the final episode of HBO 24/7 Road to the Winter Classic. Twice. At the moment, my hunger for sweatpants and the couch (my annual "winter hibernation") is being deliciously satisfied by a plethora of sports television. It's a good time of year to be a sports fan.

In honor of my sports-centric brain, because sports viewing means hearty eating with friends (so true) and to bring some merry-foodie-ness to the wide world of sports, here are a few sporty recipes from around the web:

Football requires something buffalo flavored: http://sweetpeaskitchen.com/2011/09/24/buffalo-chicken-bites/
Perk - these are WAY healthier than regular wings!

Easy peasy: refried beans, sour cream, guac, salsa, cheese, decorative peppers and MORE cheese!
Make it a bit healthier by using fat free beans and low fat sour cream and cheese (no one will know!)
Put it in individual glasses like THIS genius for easier sharing during the game.
Perfect for Superbowl Sunday at: http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/2011/02/you-gotta-see-this.html

Ohmagawd. please feed me this: http://thatssomichelle.blogspot.com/2011/08/oven-baked-chili-cheese-dogs.html

If you make THIS, you will be my hero.
Wow. An entire post about tv, eating and sports. Ooooh winter.
