Hump Day Distractions

So far, so good.
Happy Hump Day my friends! How you livin? Today, is one of those days that Dr. H and I would say is "just a day" as in "how was your day?" "oh you know, just a day. a day in the life." Not bad, not good, just chuggin along. Sometimes we all need "just a day" don't you think? Here to help make this day a little more lively and interesting are some distractions from around the web. Enjoy!

* Rejoice! Science finally supports my theory that showering daily is bananas (or at least a tad unnecessary).
* Was recently reminded of THIS post and took comfort in the planetary explanation for last year's wild ride.
* Two of my favorite things, Downton Abbey and Cards Against Humanity, combined.
* This is a real thing and it's so f*kcing amazing I can't STAND it. I am going to buy this. You've all been put on notice.
* I really liked this post from Justina.
* A must have piece of clothing for fans of the Poo Emoji.
* So what you're saying is that Matthew McConaughey has been exactly the same for over 2 decades now? Nice.
* Up your breakfast game while still keeping it under 400 calories.
* Life changing "surgery" for a tortoise, thanks to Legos.

It's Tailgate Time!

Hike!
Are you ready for some football!? With the start of the college and NFL football seasons these last two weekends, all my summer sun lounging outside days have devolved into "what time is kickoff?/where is the game on?" love affairs with my television. Tis the season!! Here to make sure your tailgate snacks are as game ready as your team (hopefully!) are some new game day recipes to take for a whirl. Game on!

THIS recipe claims that quesadilla glory is just 10 minutes away. Black beans and corn, salsa and seasoning, this is a game time or tailgate snack anyone can manage to pull off and it's sure to be a hit! (Pin it HERE)

While we're hitting the mexican-theme munchies, HERE's another "put it in a bite size cup" recipe for Mini Mexican Pizzas. An easy to follow recipe with just a few ingredients, you can do all the prep in advance and then pop these into the oven just before halftime for a mid-game treat! (Pin it HERE).

Has there ever been a more unexpected match made in culinary food heaven!? Avocados wrapped in bacon - easy, healthy(ish!?), bacon-y and delicious all at once. Check out the simple recipe (via Necessary Clothing of all places!) HERE (Pin it HERE)

So that pizza bread right there? How delicious does that look!? The full recipe for make-your-own-dough is right HERE or if you're like me and love the idea but hate the mess/effort/time involved, pop over to your favorite pizza shop and ask if they will sell you a pizza's worth of dough (many will!) Then follow the recipe from there.

And of course there will be times when your team draws the early game and breakfast eats are called for, which is why there is THIS Breakfast Casserole w egg whites, bacon, spinach and smoked gouda recipe. It's time to up your kegs and eggs game my friends. (Pin it HERE)

Hump Day Distractions

Seriously good question of the day.
So I'm rollin in a little late with the distractions today, but I'm going to blame it on my all-consuming anticipation of tonight's So You Think You Can Dance performance finale. Dr. H and I are SYTYCD junkies and I just cannot WAIT to see who is going to be crowned "America's Favorite Dancer" (#ThisIsNotAPaidAdvertisement) To get ya through the day, over the hump and straight on to the holiday weekend, here are some delightful distractions from around the web!

* An answer to the tattoo critique "but who knows how it will look when you get old and wrinkly!?"
* If this amazing overnight experience includes free meatballs, I just might have to fly to Australia for it! (via CupofJo)
* Cute, tasty and kid friendly "breakfast sushi".
* Can a normal human wear things like THIS because I kinda want to...
* So freaking creative and cool.
* If it's possible to be turned on by built in bookshelves, I'd have to say THESE are doing the trick. Mmmm.
* That moment when an excellent office prank may have gone too far...
* I like this list.
* This game of flip cup is on a whole other level. #NailingIt

Yo Quiero...

I may or may not know someone who owned this.
As some of you probably realized (maybe even more than "some"!?) I didn't make it to the blogosphere to post yesterday, but I have a really good reason. I was eating Taco Bell. Specifically, the long coveted Doritos Locos Tacos and the newly discovered AM Crunch Wrap. I ate both of these items for breakfast (#NoShame) and all I can say is WOW (also, YES and "when is it appropriate to eat another?") A long time lover of all things Doritos, I have been holding off on eating a Locos Taco until I could do so with beloved BFFs and yesterday was that glorious day. The AM Crunch Wrap was a last minute (excellent) addition to our order after a drool-worthy commercial indicated that we would find hashbrowns IN the breakfast quesadilla.

Now I know some people are skeptical of fast food or perhaps too high falutin to "think outside the bun", but to all of you I say "your loss amigo!" These items exceeded my expectations (Doritos Locos Taco Pro-Tip: eat them fresh instead of bringing them home... the shells get a little soggy) and though I'm not suggesting they be part of your next well balanced meal or daily diet, I am saying that you should try them. At least once. Especially if you're like me and Doritos are your thang. Seriously. Eat it now.

Breakfast for Dinner.

"Brinner". Genius.
Do you ever eat breakfast for dinner? Though I know of plenty of people happy to turn their day upside down with a bowl of cereal or an omelette in the evening, Dr. H and I rarely, if ever, go for it. Maybe because we tend to be light breakfast/hearty dinner people (totally the opposite of what's recommended I know!) but breakfast for dinner just doesn't seem substantive enough... Until yesterday when I stumbled upon this:

Pinterest HERE; actual site HERE
... and I was like "now those are some breakfast for dinners I can get behind!" Though the recipes aren't quite "breakfast" (an eggs benedict burger? egg pizza?) all 25 suggestions still sound most egg-cellent:) Or perhaps you want to prepare this super simple creation for the avocado lover in your life?

Bacon & Egg Stuffed avocados
Just scoop a bit of the avocado out, crack in an egg, sprinkle with bacon and bake 425 for 15 min! Easy, rich in protein and pretty darn healthy (sub turkey or Canadian bacon for "undeniably healthy") I 100% plan to try it out.

And if you're thinking "this is all way too complicated, I'll just have an omelette", that's cool, I've got you covered....
Black bean chili omelette

Hump Day Distractions

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...
...what do we do? We swim, swim, swim! All the way to Friday right!? Another weekly grind, another hearty serving of Hump Day Distractions for your clicking pleasure. PLUS, there's something new and totally freaking awesome coming to the blog tomorrow, so get excited and until then, distract yourself here:

* THIS Mom totally rocks my socks off.
* 12 hours in ______. (everything you need to know)
* As if being an astronaut wasn't awesome enough, THIS dude is taking space travel to the next level of cool.
* Game on breakfast.
* For your favorite "Face Farmer" and his offspring (bookmarked for an eventual lil merry kiddo of course).
* Don't let your desk job drag your fitness routine down!
* If I ever have to leave NYC, at least I will know where to go.
* I am a size 7.5 and my birthday is in July. Who's buying?
* Thanks to Sis for sending this dance-tastic routine my way.
* The world is such an incredibly beautiful place.
* This one has made the rounds, but just in case you missed it, these parents are my heroes.
* I'd like to think that Dr. H and I would handle THIS the exact same way (but we'd be singing Journey of course!)

Uhhh... back to work?

Chocolate Covered Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich
I feel like someone gave me an amazing chocolate covered brownie ice cream sandwich, let me take a big 'ol bite, and then just took it away!! After a day of sleeping in, egg sandwiches for breakfast (you KNOW how I feel about egg sandwiches) a little beach/pool/Dr. H/sunshine action and FIREWORKS(!!!) somehow, I am back at work. On the bright side however, a holiday on a Wednesday kinda makes it seem like this week has three weekends. I can live with that outlook! To welcome you back to the weirdest week ever, I thought I would dedicate this post to ice cream. Because I love ice cream (to the moon and back).

Tasty treat treasure trove right on the streets of NYC!
Soft serve is far and away my FAVORITE kind of ice cream (though there are a few homemade scoop flavors that rival it (I'm lookin at you Ice Cream Cottage Chocolate Overdose)). Mr. Softee trucks are a quintessential sign of summer here in NYC and block after block I have to ask myself "do I want a chocolate dip cone?" or "how about a swirl with sprinkles"? The answer: Yes and yes.

Never doubt the power of an amazing chocolate milkshake

This one requires an ice cream maker (which obvi I own) but
you could definitely just buy the flavor and start from there...

And finally, I saved the ice cream world's pièce de résistance for last. If you ever find yourself outside a Ghirardelli's Chocolate Shop, do not hesitate. Enter. Sit down. Order something RIDICULOUS from their ice cream menu (sample HERE).
The experience will start like this...

...and end like THIS!

The Power of an Awesome Breakfast!

Every day should start with a deli sausage, egg and cheese on a toasted roll. Or maybe those days could alternate with cream cheese and lox on an everything bagel? Wouldn’t that be awesome? I am amazed by the power of a yummy breakfast. To be clear, I do not mean “power” as in power to get me through the day thanks to a healthy, balanced meal (clearly. I started this post with “sausage” and “cheese”). I mean power as in “this delicious bundle in tin foil is actually going to improve my mood!!”

My usual breakfast is a yogurt, but every so often I indulge in a breakfast MEAL instead of breakfast fuel and my smile as I chow in my cubicle amuses me every time. Breaking from my routine, having something I know is less healthy, BUYING breakfast... it all gives me some simple joy. And don’t pretend like you can make an egg sandwich as awesome as the one from my bodega. You can’t. It’s like writing the price in permanent marker on the wrapper of my sandwich gives it special power to satisfy. So I say treat yourself this morning to a break from boring breakfast. Your [toast and egg whites/yogurt/cold cereal] will be waiting for you again tomorrow.
