Hump Day Distractions

Everyone get your hump on!
Well this whole fall-ing for the new season week is not exactly panning out the way I'd planned. I say we just enjoy the sudden crisp weather (and the ability to finally have frizz-free straight hair!) and pick up our fall lovin again next Monday... In the meantime, we'll hump today and I'll no doubt find something else to keep us busy until Friday (Mmmm, Friday...) Happy humping my merry friends!

* THIS dude makes Katniss seem unimpressive.
* I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my biiiiike. (THESE are so witty!) [via Black Eiffel]
* When a healthy recipe looks delicious I get excited (also, a little nervous)
* Oh what's that you said? You want to buy me a TOTALLY AWESOME gift!?  (Petite Cherie or Stardust please)
* This company must be readers of the blog
* Morgan Freeman makes eevvvvvvverything sound better (Penguins? Batman weaponry? Escaping prison!?!) but this might just take the cake!

Hump Day Distractions

Some Wednesdays require wit & sass. This is one of those Wednesdays.
Well hello hello. I'm back from the deserts of California with distractions galore!! How was my weekend at Coachella you ask!? Well...
* I ate one of THESE (and yes I am already tracking their NYC truck for seconds).
* I saw a rapper rise from the dead and he confirmed that life aint nothin but a gangsta party (track at 2:48; beware of some serious thug life language in that link).
* I danced like crazy, but lacked sufficient glow-in-the-dark accessories. Next time I will be more prepared
* Radiohead. YES.
* These pictures do it much more justice than mine ever will (I'm not cool, I don't Instagram).

OR... maybe you're all "I don't care about your stinkin vacation at the stinkin music festival!"
No worries, I got you covered:
* Baby giraffe and a butterfly. Click it NOW.
* I think I need to check out this store.
* Looksy what I cooked for dinner last night!
* Ever wonder how many shades of grey Barbara Walters likes her men?
* I want to be friends with ALL these people.

Hump Day Distractions

That's a cold cold stare Ms. Wednesday
Today may be your Wednesday, but it's MY Friday. I gots a little vacation coming up starting tomorrow - so close I can taste it. Distract yourself from the injustice here:

* I see faces everywhere I look...
* I would love an all-expenses-paid trip around the world (even if it has to be in 10 days!)
* In all likelihood, I would still run late.
* A map, cool brochure or even a concert poster would make this photo-centric craft an awesome keepsake.
* Before there were the 50 shades of grey, there were all these other shades to contend with.
* Are the streets of your city where the good food is at?
* Love you Madam Secretary. You are AWESOME.

Have you heard about..?

"Ohmygod! That's sooooo hot right now!"
I'm always amazed how things suddenly become popular or as some might say "so hot right now". Mason jars. Pinterest. The Hunger Games. You've never heard of it, then all the sudden its buzzing and you're either in the know or all "whhhat, owls are cool now!?" WELL... just like I've started doing restaurant reviews, recipe posts and travel ideas, every so often I'm going to throw a "Have you heard about" your way. Sometimes I imagine you'll be all "geez Meri, you're sooo behind the times," but maybe I'll steer you towards something on the cusp of awesome and we can all be hailed as trendsetters together!! So without further a due...

* Have you heard about Downton Abbey?

Downton Abbey is a tv series, (on PBS of all places!) which I just started watching on Netflix. I'd heard some chatter about the show, but it wasn't until a feature in Us Weekly that I decided to jump on the bandwagon. Set on a Yorkshire estate, the show is a "period piece" which follows the lives of an aristocratic family and their servants during the reign of King George V. Think Mad Men of the 1910s. It's surprisingly riveting (even if I can't always understand the heavy cockney accents!) Check it out.

* Have you heard about Fifty Shades of Grey?
One of my girls told me that Twitter is buzzing about this book. She's reading it, her mom is reading it, "everyone" is reading it. Naturally, now I am reading it and though I'm only 70 pages in, I'm intrigued. Far from a literary masterpiece (the prose has a Candace Bushnell feel and it's sexual when it doesn't need to be) there's something about the story that grabbed me from the start. Apparently things are going to get VERY steamy (you've been warned) so we'll see if part 1 of this trilogy is onto something.

* Have you heard about friendship bracelets?

Remember those bracelets you spent hours making at summer camp!? Well brake out your plastic string boxes ladies, apparently friendship bracelets are cool again. I personally love piling on the bracelets and though they've been modernized to include beads, charms and rhinestones, there's still something nostalgic and instantly fun about adorning your wrists with this trend. I've been admiring THESE for a while now (time to make a purchase?!) and if you're feeling crafty, here's a tutorial to make your own!
